Dear Reading Friends, this is David Telbat. Steadfast Book Six is about to be released, and I cannot wait to hear what you think of it! It follows closely on the heels of Steadfast Book Five, so you won’t miss a beat. Eric Radner must safely escort people through a pack of wild dogs and a murderous community of Pan-Day survivors. Are you ready to join Eric on the adventure as he trusts God like Daniel did? Will God preserve him? This is not just a fictional story about the last days of America. This is a story about us.
Daniel, and You and Me
God preserved the Scriptures for our growth in character and relationship with Himself. One book in the Bible is the Book of Daniel. Daniel was a man of great faith. As a youth, he stood up to the most powerful empire on earth and defied their system. Later, he refused to stop praying to God when he was ordered to pray to the king. How could he survive when he cared more for his God, and God’s ways, in defiance of the ruler of the land?
Today, we may not be faced with a pit of lions if we defy the status quo of society, but sometimes the media and our unbelieving neighbors have a way of terrifying us, so that we no longer live boldly for the Lord.
But steadfast faith is not about what kind of strength WE have. Steadfast faith is focused on the strength of our Mighty God. We do not defy the world to cause a scene or draw attention to ourselves. Rather, we defy the fallen world system of sin to live humbly before the throne of our Mighty God. We promote Him. We stand for Him. He is our cause, our identity.
Eric Radner is just a Picture
While writing Steadfast Book Six, I was convinced that the message of feral dogs and bloodthirsty people surrounding Eric must be communicated to my reading friends. There are several times in this novella when people try to intimidate Eric to defy his Lord and Savior. How like our own society nowadays, when Jesus is mocked without shame, the subject of creation is a matter of scoffing, and our Creator’s name is a curse word. Of course, any normal person would shrink back in the face of such intimidation!
But God’s people are not normal people, and that is the lesson of this latest Steadfast Book Six. Eric Radner has his weaknesses, his problems, his deficits—just like us. But, because of his faith in a mighty God, and his love for others, even Eric’s enemies are drawn to his side. He speaks boldly and cares courageously. Mercy and forgiveness are his weapons that break down walls and tear down hardened hearts.
For Eric—and for us—it is not so much about defying what is contrary in this world. No, that is a focus of negativity that is certain to fail. Rather, our focus is on WHO is worthy of promoting with every breath of our being. This is the God we lift up—our sovereign, loving, and Holy Lord who has already disarmed the enemy. We have only to stand in His shadow in this fallen world.
Let us trust like Daniel. Leave the lions to the Lord.
See you on the next page!
