Hi Reading Friends! David here. Welcome to my Research in Reverse Part II, about Nigeria.
I shared in Research in Reverse Part I of this series about research included in my upcoming book, Dark Vessel, COIL Series Book 4, about Gustavia in the Caribbean. Many times as I write, I shape stories around places I’ve been or have already researched, rather than develop a story first, then find the research to support it.
Research in Reverse II – Nigeria
In Dark Vessel, we also visit Nigeria, a place I feel needs our most urgent attention in the real world. For years, Christians have been slaughtered in Nigeria, murdered by Boko Haram militants, and it seems to seldom make much news. Sometimes they kill their victims simply because they have non-Muslim names. This happens every week. Between the time that I write this post and the time that you read it, dozens more will have been killed.
How well do you know the Shahada, the Muslim confession of faith? If you don’t know it, don’t visit Nigeria’s Borno State. Or if you do know it, would you be willing to state it openly and renounce Christ to save your life?
These tensions are addressed in Dark Vessel as a COIL operative goes into the hornet’s nest in Nigeria to assist God’s people.
Nigeria needs our prayers and our help. We can begin by acquainting ourselves with some of the reports from Voice of the Martyrs and Open Doors on the region where we still have hundreds of Christian pastors living as if tomorrow they will be murdered. Because some of them will be. Sobering truths for us all!
In my next research post, I will touch on other interesting facts I learned for Dark Vessel—such as about New Hampshire’s Presidential Mountain Range, about Bangladesh, and about the Boeing 747-8 Intercontinental… But I won’t give anything away about the story! 😉
See you on the next page!
