Christian Author D.I. Telbat reflects on a morning at NW Bible Camp, an unforgettable adventure and ministry. And a time alone with God.
A Reflection: NW Bible Camp, an Unforgettable Adventure
My watch alarm went off at 5am. I’d been asleep for only a few minutes since one of the campers had had a nightmare. As a senior counselor, I responded to all disturbances in my dorm.
The kids wouldn’t wake for breakfast for another hour. Even most of the counselors were still recovering from the night’s activities and the previous hectic day. This was my hour to enjoy the Rocky Mountains!
Carrying my Bible, I crept outside the boys’ dorm and moved down the rocky path to the peaceful lake. The sky was a pale blue, as the sun promised to soon emerge.
I found my familiar spot on the grassy bank of the still water. It was a spot I had chosen in years past as a junior counselor. A massive mountain peak rose directly east. Lake, forest, mountains – and now the sun!
A fish jumped. The ripple across the water disappeared under a layer of hovering mist.
Closing my eyes, I felt the first rays of morning sun hit my face. A squirrel fussed over a pinecone next to me, but I didn’t open my eyes. This was God’s creation; beauty He created for me to enjoy.
When I opened my eyes again, the mist was gone, and the sun was above the highest ridge. I read from Psalm 121, and sought strength for the coming day of games, laughter, Bible stories, and canoe trips.
In 24 hours, I’d be admiring another rising sun, just as exhausted, but just as content and full of peace.
With a deep breath, I filled my lungs with crisp air, and my soul seemed to revive. It was time to wake up my campers.
The End
See you in the field!

There are many ways to serve the Lord. Helping at a Bible Camp is one way, or in your local church, but there are many other ways as well. In “Resources” on the menu bar above, we’ve given a link for “Ministries Where You Can Get Involved.” Check them out for ideas!
