Dear Readers, Thank you for joining us for Part 2 in the Forgiveness Series. In my COIL novels, I often portray men and women who don’t deserve to be forgiven. It seems very bothersome to some in the world that God has a message of forgiveness that extends to all people (read Acts 13:38-39). This same message of forgiveness is one that I have both received and share with others. Because of my own need to be forgiven, you’ll find this message for desperate sinners in each book I write. Have you received God’s forgiveness?
Willing to Forgive
Sometimes in my COIL books, key protagonist Agent Corban Dowler extends mercy to evil men and women, at great risk to his own safety. Why does he do this? It’s because Corban knows that every soul is precious to God, and God’s power is no better displayed than when a wicked, spiritually dead person is transformed into a vibrant follower of Jesus Christ. Can you relate to Corban Dowler?
Perhaps the reason Corban is so quick to forgive what many would call unforgivable is because he believes what the Bible says about the forgiveness he himself has received. Understanding he was born sinful, Corban knows he’s been forgiven by faith in Christ’s payment for his sins. Though other characters around him are sinful, Corban does as Christ did for all of us—he responds toward them in anticipation of their repentance.
I hope you are a reader who understands God’s message of forgiveness. I believe it’s the basis by which we’re able to forgive others. In The COIL Series, Corban isn’t perfect, but by God’s Word, he learns to practice forgiveness over and over. How’s your practice coming?
