This book is so good that I didn’t get much else done for about a week while reading it. From the author of Seabiscuit, Laura Hillenbrand has written this second book, which is already on its way to greatness. This is a true story about a criminal, an athlete, a soldier, and a survivor—you must read it yourself to get the breathtaking details!
Unbroken is about Louis Zamperini, an Italian raised in Torrence, California. His life was eventful from the beginning, from California to the Olympic finals in Berlin before the Second World War. But when you think you’ve reached the end of his life, keep reading.
This book is also a biographer’s story about a Christian, though the author accurately portrays some difficult scenes to swallow, and there are a few swear words.
When the war started, Louis found himself in the belly of a bomber, hitting targets in the South Pacific. Getting shot out of the sky seemed hard to survive, but this man refused to be broken. Survival under the blistering sun and above the circling sharks seemed impossible, but the story of his life was still just beginning.
I’m hesitant to say much more because I want you to enjoy this story for yourself. As I was reading the book, I heard that a producer had stepped up to make it into a movie. Well-worth seeing!
Louis Zamperini has made an impression on my mind and heart. Hillenbrand has drafted a well-researched story that borders on the unbelievable at times—but the facts are available to confirm. I highly recommend this amazing story. I give it five-stars. Thank you, Laura Hillenbrand!
