Dreams and Visions
By Tom Doyle
Book Review by D.I. Telbat
Genre: Religious Studies
This book about the dreams and visions that are occurring in the Muslim world today will challenge any mediocre Christian in America.
As a conservative believer, I was skeptical at first about the message of this book. But Author Tom Doyle is also a conservative believer, and his message is for everyone who claims to be a follower of Jesus Christ. That message: to inform us all of what God is presently doing in the Middle East.
By country, Tom gives a tour through the Middle East, chapter after chapter, with true stories of men and women who are being turned to Christ by the dreams they are having. These are specific dreams about Jesus. These aren’t “new revelation” dreams, but rather “insight” into truth already revealed through the Bible. Where Christian missionaries can’t go, God seems to be taking matters into His own hands to reach one of the last spiritual “deserts” in the world.
As an author myself, I’ve written several novels involving Muslim extremists, or Muslims in general. I’ve had a vague idea of how God sees (and how I should view) the traditional Muslim. Now, because I’ve read this book, I have a more complete biblical understanding of Christ’s love for even the Muslim radical. God wants them to be saved, so I should love them as well!
After reading each of these stories, I was left with a profound sense of certainty that these people are sincere. They’re really having dreams and visions of Jesus expressing His love to them. Just to admit they’re having these dreams could get them killed, so they have nothing to gain in this world by confessing they’re having “Jesus dreams.” And their disclosures cause other Muslims to seek out a Bible and a Christian so they too may become Jesus followers.
Dreams and Visions is also a call for every Christian—every true follower of Jesus—to express love toward the Muslim man, woman, and child. Are Muslims really being converted? Yes, through love. And they’re willing to die for their Savior, because that’s what it means to convert from Islam to Christianity. They risk their lives to do so. If they are taking Jesus that seriously, what about us Christians here in America?
Finally, at the end of this inspiring book, I was left with a thought, even with tears: “This is my God at work. This is my God at work!“
Read this book. It’s an easy five-star read. Thanks to Tom Doyle’s sometimes dangerous ministering around the world, we are given this important collection of stories—and real evidence—that our Mighty God is at work. May we love as He loves.
