Greetings, Christian Friends! David here. The novella Soldier of Hope, A POW Survival Story in Afghanistan, will soon will be available as a complete book! But you may want to know how this action-adventure story came about, so here’s a glimpse behind the curtain of this book. [UPDATE: Soldier of Hope is now available in eBook format! Visit the linked title to see a list of where you can find the book.]
SOH was written in two days, originally for a veteran’s support group to help build awareness to local veterans’ needs. When that project fell through, I worked on the manuscript for a few more days and prepared it as a serialized novella for our site.
From the beginning, I wanted to explore the idea of a short war story wherein the protagonist (hero) didn’t kill his enemies. I also wanted to write a war story with a Christian emphasis on God and family. Would it be possible to write such a story, yet make it exciting and worth reading?
In the end, we are left with a character—POW Army Ranger Jeff Grant—who has been put through more tragedy than any other story character I’ve created, and yet his drive to reach his loved ones only grows stronger.
Maybe that’s the point of the story: the harder the challenge, the sweeter the finish line. So don’t give up! If Jeff Grant can make it beyond all hope, so can you! 🙂
My thanks to Afghanistan Vet, Jeremy J., for his kind remarks on Soldier of Hope. The comment can be read at the bottom of the Soldier of Hope page here.
See you on the next page, reader friends!
